Mural Painting CT – Zuber Wallpaper Reproduction Mural – part 1 by Marc Potocsky

We are currently hand painting a Zuber mural reproduction in for a private residence in Connecticut. One of the panels is from the “Eldorado” series.

This flamboyant panoramic wallpaper, first printed in 1848,  has 24 breadths that are hand printed with 1554 blocks and 210 different colors. The scenic Zuber El Dorado depicts four major continents, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.

Close up of the paper. notice all the different block colors, nothing is blended. You might remember “Venus Paradise”  Paint by numbers, its painted in a similar fashion.

After sketching in we begin painting. The mural will be cut into 3  sections after painting. Notice the string to mark the sections.

Blocking in. We are working in acrylics, so we can move quickly.

Almost finished with the first panel 11 x 7ft.

We will begin the next panel which will be an original piece that will be a continuation of this panel using similar palette, stone architecture, landscape and trees, etc. I called a friend and partner of mine  Pascal Amblard to help me design the other panel which we will show in part 2.
