Decorative Painting in CT. part 1 by Marc Potocsky / MJP Studios I love Connecticut! I wanted to do and article on Decorative painting in CT. and show some photos of different home decor projects I’ve done over the years.
But I couldn’t make up my mind on which projects to share. I can’t get them all in one article so this will be a decorative painting appetizer. Who knows this might be part 1 of 20 parts. Ha! Decorative Painting in CT part 68!
I’ve been a decorative painter for about 20 years and I can say it never gets old. Every project is so different. I’ve always loved the variety.
I also like to teach and educate, so I thought I would talk about some of the history of decorative painting. Decorative painting is a broad art form that us centuries old. There were decorative painters in caves back in the day.
Decorative painters have to cover numerous painting techniques, aspects of the trade and mediums applied to a variety of surfaces.
Contemporary decorative painters includes faux finishing, glazing, textures, trompe loeil painting, tole painting, folk art, wood graining, marbleizing, stenciling, gilding, murals, lettering and on every conceivable surface from floor to ceiling, and everything in between, and interiors to exteriors.
A decorative painter is a decorator in the truest sense. Most techniques for faux finishing and patinas are parts or a isolated step used in faux painted marble and faux paint wood and stone, like ragging, sponging, stippling, dragging, dry brushing, combing, using a positive glaze application and negative removal of the glaze.
I’ve been doing murals, faux finishes and imitation of stone, wood, marble for years working for clients and designers and decorators alike, all along the Connecticut shore line from R.I. to NYC. From Hartford to New York state to Massachusetts to Long Island and Greenwich CT. to New Jersey and each year it gets better and better, with more interesting people and projects that keep my line of work interesting.
My clients for the most part end up becoming good friends and my relationships with other contractors in different trades involved in Decoration and building is a plus.
It really is all about relationships and what I can help people with concerning their projects, keeping them creative, and fresh.
Decorative painting is a great trade to be involved in. The possibilities are endless and a satisfied client never gets old. Decorative Painting in CT. part 1 by Marc Potocsky / MJP Studios MJP- Murals MJP – Decorative painting
